Are you ready to walk with us at Greeley Park for the…
Sixth Annual New Hampshire Walk Now for Autism
Hello everyone, it is time to lace up our sneakers and Walk Now for Autism! After many months of planning it is finally time for the sixth annual New Hampshire Walk to support Autism Speaks. The entire Planning Committee is excited to host this special day and looks forward to celebrating its success with all of you. Outlined below are some helpful tips to assist you with your walk preparation. Please be sure to review these carefully and if you have any additional questions contact our Chapter office by phone 888-627-6227 or by email, newhampshire@autismspeaks.org.
- Walk parking will be located at Greeley Park on both sides of the street
- The Walk route is 1.5 miles with an option of 3.1 miles or .5 miles (for those looking for a short walk) and it is handicap accessible. We encourage you to bring strollers, wagons, etc. for your children. Please leave bicycles, skate boards and scooters at home. Feel free to bring blankets and folding chairs to lay-out on the lawn and enjoy the day.
- Balloons are allowed at the park, as well as any other banners or signs you may have to identify your team.
- We must ask that you refrain from bringing pets to this event as many of the children may have difficulty with unfamiliar animals.
- There will be signs directing you along the Walk route.
- There will be an assortment of healthy snacks and water available on Walk day provided by Panera Bread, The 99, Bachman and Maddies Bagels and Eatery. We will also have some gluten free snacks provided by Arico Foods. We encourage you to pack a picnic lunch and bring it for your team.
- We will be having a t-shirt contest, so if you are interested, please bring an extra shirt to hand in for judging at registration.
- There will be a van driving the walk route sponsored by Safeway Transportation if you feel you need a ride at any point of the walk.
- Come prepared for a day of family fun. There will be face painting, arts and crafts, massage, Ski and the 99ers Band, as well as special guest Geoffrey the Giraffe.
- On-site restrooms will be available for use on Walk day, including handicap accessible toilets.
- There will be volunteers and police officers making sure that everyone who participates in the Walk is safe and secure, but we would also ask each adult to help us ensure the safety of all children and individuals who may need additional supervision. Please do not leave children alone at any of the activities or food areas. While you are walking there will be volunteers stationed along the route for additional support. If you have any safety concerns please call 888-627-6227 and we will be happy to address them.
- The best part about a Walk Now for Autism event is that it is geared specifically for individuals on the spectrum and their families. This event will be 100% autism spectrum disorders “friendly” and we encourage you to bring everyone and anyone.
- Please remember this event takes place rain or shine. So if we are unfortunate enough to have rain on Walk day be sure to come prepared.
We look forward to seeing each and every one of you on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Registration starts at 10:00am and the walk begins promptly at 11:00am. Keep checking our web site at www.walknowforautism.org/nh for current information.
