2008 Greater Austin Honorary Chairs

Carole Keeton Strayhorn is Austin and she supports Autism Speaks.  Join us Friday, September 12 at the Greater Austin Walk Now for Austin Kickoff Luncheon.  Carole Keeton Strayhorn will be our Keynote Speaker. 
Strayhorn is notable for several "firsts" in Austin and Texas politics.  She is the first woman elected as mayor of Austin and the first Austin mayor elected to three consecutive terms.  She was the first woman elected to the Texas Railroad Commission and the first woman elected as comptroller.  She also was the first woman to serve as president of the Austin School Board and as president of the Austin Community College board. 

Chad Goldwasser is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Goldwasser Real Estate, leading the number one residential real estate team in Austin and the top team worldwide for Keller Williams Realty.  Chad remains active in the real estate division while working to develop other aspects of the company, such as the Goldwasser Institute, a teaching and training business designed to educate and inspire others to follow their own dreams and realize their own potential, just as he has. Chad is recognized as a dynamic, experienced, and sought-after public speaker who motivates and enriches lives through his talks about attitude, leadership, and personal growth. His next big goal is to write a New York Times best-selling book based on what he’s learned on his ride to the top of the real estate profession.

Greg Swindell is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who had a 17 year career from 1986 to 2002. He played for Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox of the American League and the Cinncinnati Reds, Houston Astros, and Arizona Diamondbacks of the National League. 
Swindell graduated from Sharpstown High School in 1983. He played on the 1984 Olympic Team and The University of Texas at Austin baseball team. 
Inducted into the Longhorn Hall of Honor in 1996, Swindell and his wife, Sarah, reside in Austin with their daughters Hayley, Brenna and Sophia, and their son Dawson. 

Spike Gillespie is a journalist, author, teacher, documentary filmmaker, ordained minister and life coach. She lives in Austin, Texas.
Spike is the critically acclaimed author of four books and countless magazine articles. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Real Simple, GQ, Esquire, Elle, Smithsonian, National Geographic Traveler, The Christian Science Monitor, Texas Monthly, The Dallas Morning News, and other publications. In 2006, Austin Chronicle readers voted her Best Author in Austin.
Spike also is the co-founder of the Austin Children of Musicians, Artists and Writers Fund, a non-profit fund to help kids in crisis. She is the President of the Office of Good Deeds. Spike also joyfully performs weddings. And check out her new gig at blog.launchpadcoworking.com!

Janna Lilly is the Director of Special Education for Austin ISD. She holds a Masters degree in school administration and a Bachelors degree in elementary education and special education. 
Janna has been a Special Education Director for 11 years and in the public education for 25 years. She has taught regular ed. 1st grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, special education life skills at all grade levels and resource at the high school level. She has presented at a variety of local, regional and statewide conferences including the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Assistant Principals Conference, Texas Council for Administrators in Special Education (TCASE) and Texas State Social Workers Conference. Janna is on the executive board for TCASE and is their Vice President for legislative matters. She has also served on leadership teams for Region 13 Education Service Center.

Owen Egerton is the author of the novel Marshall Hollenzer is Driving, several screenplays (including the award winning Evil Twinkie) and a number of essays. His writing has been featured in Puerto del Sol, Killing the Buddha, Tiferet, Word Riot, and several other magazines and literary journals. Owen earned a MFA in Creative Writing from Texas State University in 2005. He is also the co-creator of the hit comedy troupe The Sinus Show which performed for six years at the Alamo Drafthouse and for several years was the artistic director of Austin’s National Comedy Theatre. He is a contributing commentator for public radio, an accomplished recording artist and founder of the equal marriage rights group The Right to Marry. Owen lives in Austin, Texas with his hot wife Jodi and brilliant daughter Arden.

Ari Brown, M.D., F.A.A.P. graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in child development. After receiving her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, she completed her pediatric residency at Harvard Medical School/Boston Children's Hospital. She has additional training in developmental and behavioral pediatrics. She entered private practice in 1995.
Dr. Brown has received numerous awards including Austin's Favorite Pediatrician in 2004 from Austin Family Magazine. She is an active voice for children's health issues and is a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Texas Medical Association. Her book, Baby 411: Clear Answers and Smart Advice for your Baby's First Year (Windsor Peak, 2003), is a national bestselling parenting guide for infants. Dr. Brown has appeared on the NBC Today Show and has been quoted in numerous parenting magazines and the Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Brown's proudest accomplishments are her two children and her wonderful relationship with her husband.

Jan Motriuk, MA, M.E.D. has been serving Austin families and students with ASD for over 10 years in school, home and community settings.  Jan’s experience as a parent and in-home trainer, client educator and 7 years as a member of the RRISD Autism Team have given her a lifespan view of ASD and the importance of building and generalizing skills across all environments.  Jan holds a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Texas .  With a particular expertise in teaching social and play skills to persons with ASD Jan’s motto of “it’s fun to have fun but you gotta know how” underlines the focal point of Spectrum’s mission – teaching persons with ASD and related social differences the social interaction skills needed for a lifetime of success.  www.spectrumsocial.net
