Over 800 individuals from the North Florida communities gathered on a warm and sunny Sunday morning to walk in the Inaugural Jacksonville Walk Now for Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks was welcomed to the Jacksonville community by City Council President, Richard Clark. Councilman Clark was thrilled by the turn out of the community and emphasized the importance of our mission. Participants circled the track of UNF?s Hodges Stadium and were led by Toys ?R? Us Ambassador, Geoffrey the Giraffe and UNF Mascot, Ozzie the Osprey. While participants walked, they were cheered on by the UNF Cheerleaders and treated to music by our DJ, Josh Wilson of Music by Kevin. Josh is a man with Asperger?s who has been working as a DJ for many years in the North Florida area. We were excited to have him as a part of our event. The Jacksonville community has raised over $51,000, a number that is still growing, in support of Autism Speaks.

Jacksonville 2009 Grand Club Members- Brynden Styres, Mary Anne Lane, Lisa Newman, Jinnie Benedict, Mikki Livanos, Del Cabrera, Kevin McNaught, and Natalie Knight-Hercules!  Each of these people have raised over $1,000 as an individual! Congratulations! Many of you are just dollars away from joining this group as a Grand Club Member- it is not too late to get your last bit of fundraising in!
