Join us to help our grandson, Christian, and all those families who live with autism every day!
As many of you may know, we founded Autism Speaks in 2005, a year after our grandson Christian was diagnosed with the disorder.
Christian is a beautiful little boy who until the age of two was developing normally. At that time he was a child filled with curiosity, at every chance wanting to share in his discoveries. He used to greet us by running into our open arms, smiling and laughing, happy to be in the moment. Then, without warning, it all went away. We watched as our cherished grandson succumbed to the grips of autism – Christian lost his ability to communicate with the world around him, and the precious boy that we knew and loved, was gone.
As Christian’s grandparents we are committed to doing all that we can to get him back. It is our greatest hope that we will one day rescue him and all of the children who have been taken away by this heartbreaking disorder which now affects 1 in 150 – 1 in 94 boys, approximately 1% of the male population.
On August 22nd, 2009 we will host our Third Annual Nantucket Walk Now for Autism. In honor of our grandson we have formed a walk team - Christian’s Crusaders. We dearly hope that you will support us in our mission of helping those who suffer from autism by getting involved and making a donation to our team. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean so much.
