James and the 2008 Jamboree Team

For 3 years, I captained the team known as James' Jamboree and together we raised a total of $30,000 for Autism Speaks. This year, we have joined with families who have become friends - because we all have children on the Autism Spectrum - to walk as Mansfield Miracles.

Our son James was diagnosed with high-functioning autism at age 15 months. He had little speech and he did not point, clap or wave like other children his age. We rushed to a neurologist and he started ABA therapy right away. Today James is a rising first-grader who talks (a lot), reads, writes, draws, adds, and multiplies. While he struggles with social skills and eye contact, he is capable of making friendships, participating in regualar sports and activities, and just being a regular kid. We could not be happier - and his doctors could not be happier - with the progress he's made. We are thankful that we recognized the signs of autism early on and we were able to get James help at a very young age. Autism Speaks is the premier organization for advocating and raising awareness around autism. That is why we walk.
