Join me in my efforts to support Walk Now for Autism!

Hi Friends,

I wanted to let you know that I will be participating in the “Walk Now for Autism” for the 3rd year to raise funds for Autism Awareness, Resources, and Research through Autism Speaks. The Walk will be held at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock on October 11, 2009. You all know that our son Evan was diagnosed with Autism at 2.5yrs old. Evan is now 4.4yrs old and is doing fantastic!! He has been doing ABA (Applied Behavior Therapy) for 2yrs now and is talking in small sentences, can request help instead of screaming and throwing himself, and can follow
directions very well (when he feels like it). He is in his 2nd year of PPCD (preschool program for children w/disabilities). Evan goes to school all day and loves his teachers and classmates. He is now potty trained and can drink from a regular cup. Evan's favorite things are firetrucks, hot wheels, cheese pizza, cheeseburgers, & chocolate chip cookies. He is a also a whizz at puzzles and will stay focused until it is completed.

We are so proud of Evan and how far he has come!

Thank you for your support!
Missy & Evan

“Your child has autism.”

These four simple words define the facts. They are useful in explaining the past but they do not predict the future. They do not convey the devastating toll that autism has had on our family nor limit our determinedness to overcome this disorder. They are words that a new family will hear every 20 minutes.

By participating in this event, our hope is that we will soon hear “Your child no longer has autism.”
