Ethan 2009!
As most of you know our son Ethan was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. At that time we didn't know what autism was, nor did we know anyone with autism. As you can imagine over the past five years we've become experts on what autism is to Ethan and our family.
Ethan just celebrated his eighth birthday this summer and will be starting the third grade at Kumeyaay Elementary. Ethan is smart, has an incredible sense of humor, loves Star Wars and enjoys playing video games. Ethan just completed his first season of baseball and will be playing soccer this fall. Looking at Ethan you would never know he has autism.
Ethan has trouble interacting with others appropriately and has difficulty proccessing the world around him. Autism is a complex brain disorder that often inhibits a person's ability to communicate, respond to their surroundings or form relationships with others. This is why everyday we strive to help Ethan understand the world around him.
At Kumeyaay he is in a general education classroom with a full-time support person. We truly believe that his inclusion with typical peers has helped him immensely. It is our hope that Ethan will continue to grow academically and socially so in the future he may be an independent contributing member of our community.
We cannot thank our family and friends enough for their love and support through this journey we are on.
Love,
Jason, Lisa, Ethan & Emma
