Join our efforts to find a cure to Autism!

I'll never forget the day we first heard the word Autism. I was sitting with our son Joshua (13 mos old at the time) at a clinician's office in Royal Oaks, MI.

My mother and I had flown out from Chicago in the middle of a blizzard to take him to see the US expert on Apraxia, Nancy Kaufman. Hoping she could help us with his "little speech issue" we were shocked when she told us that his issue wasn't little and it wasn't Apraxia - it was Autism.

That 1 word would change our lives forever - and in ways we never imagined. Especially when our family was struck by Autism a 2nd time with the diagnosis of our daughter Sarah at 13 months of age. Instead of leaving our family devastated, we were doubly determined to understand and overcome this neurological disorder.

Fortunately Sarah has been completely cured, and Josh has made substantial gains. But it hasn't happened without hours of therapy, groundbreaking treatments, and newly discovered medications – many that we learned of through the newsletters, research findings and support groups provided by Autism Speaks.

Help us heighten awareness of Autism and find a cure. Your participation and support can make a huge difference in a child’s life!
