“Your child has autism.”

These four simple words define the facts. They are useful in explaining the past but they do not predict the future. They do not convey the devastating toll that autism has had on our family nor limit our determinedness to overcome this disorder. They are words that a new family will hear every 20 minutes.

By participating in this event, our hope is that we will soon hear “Your child no longer has autism.”

Not only am I trying to spread the word about autism because it is a disorder that effects 1:150 children now but someone very close to my heart suffers from it. My brother, Joshua who is twelve years old has Asperger's Syndrome. I look at him sometimes and just wish that there was a cure for this disorder so he can live a normal life without people thinking he is different but then I realize he is one of the sweetest and most intelligent people I know.Over the years he has changed tremendously by attending social skills groups, therapy monthly, and medication. I hope that people understand that just because your child has autism does not mean that there is no hope for them. People need to have a lot of faith and try to get the best treatments for their children. I hope that this fundraiser raises enough money for research and treatment. I hope by making this team autistic children like Joshua will finally get the support they deserve.
