Join me in my efforts to support Walk Now for Autism!
Every time I blow out candles or throw a penny in a wishing well, I almost always wish for the same thing. I wish Ben could talk to me. I would ask him to tell me how he sees the world. I would ask him why he thinks his fingers, fans and flashing lights are so interesting. I would ask him if he likes his school. I would ask him what he finds so interesting going on at 2:30 in the morning, that he cannot go back to sleep. I would ask him to tell me if he's feeling sick and what is wrong, do his ears, throat or stomach hurt? I would also ask him why he likes to watch Cars movie so many times. One thing I do know, even though he can't tell me, is that he loves his family. The brightest parts of the day can be when you pick him up from school and he has saved his biggest smile for you. And, he loves to give hugs and kisses... even to his little sisters who love to pester him.
Ben works harder than any kid his age that I know. He starts his day at 7:00 a.m. with some form of therapy (speech, occupational and physical). Then, he goes directly to school. After school is over, he goes to his second round of therapies. But, he's not done there. Most days, he does habilitation. And, he has swimming and gymnastics lesson and plays soccer. Needless to say, he's a busy kid. He works so hard to try be a typical kid. Unfortunately, he's not. He's autistic.
We walk in this event every year to show support for Ben and to support those who help him.
SARRC provides Ben's home habilitation program and we cannot tell you what a difference those individuals have made in his life. SARRC not only helps families, but engages in research so that maybe someday a cure can be found. Maybe Ben, or those like him, will be able to talk in the future. We also support Autism Speaks because on a national level, they engage in research and provide resources to other families just like us. These agenices can make a difference, but they need our help. So, we walk. And, we ask our friends to walk with us and donate.
We know that this year has been very difficult for almost everyone financially, but any amount of support you can give, helps. So, please donate and help us again this year.
Thank you also all of your support in prior years. We cannot tell you how much it means to us that our family and friends support this cause.
Thank you,
Jamee, on behalf of the Klein family
